Santana Feat Michelle Branch “The Game Of Love”

When you hear the lyrics to Michelle Branch’s song you may become a bit confused because many of the lyrics are portions and resounds of similar recordings. But as a matter if fact, Michelle’s recording is a cover.

The song had originally been recorded with New Radicals frontman Gregg Alexander, but producer Clive Davis felt a female voice would maximize the song’s appeal and a recording of Santana performing “The Game of Love” with Tina Turner as vocalist was completed. When Turner declined to participate in making a video for the track, Davis recruited Macy Gray to record a replacement vocal.

When Davis was not satisfied with that version, Michelle Branch was asked to record the song,[better source needed] with Branch’s rhythm guitar playing also added to the track. Branch said, “It was the first time for me to sing somebody else’s song. Usually I’m like: ‘Oh I want it this way’ and I’m in charge…I didn’t meet [Carlos Santana at the recording session], I didn’t know what was going on…It felt to me like wow it seems like there’s so much at stake, I’m going to go in there and just sing my heart out and just cross my fingers.”

The Tina Turner version of “The Game of Love” was issued on the 2007 retrospective Ultimate Santana. Santana said “There’s only one Tina Turner…No one can hit a note like Tina Turner…I love Michelle [Branch] and she did a great interpretation of it. It’s just that with all honor and respect to Michelle, there’s the girl and there’s the woman, and Michelle is unfolding into a woman…but it takes time to go from a girl into a

    1. That is so funny. Time seems to have no rhythm nor reason these days. One day I remember wishing everyone a blessed weekend and it was only Wednesday or Thursday. I think it was some one on AOC that straightened me out. Why not make it Saturday then. Guess the most important thing is God, relationships and love and of course coffee and great music. Have a wonderful evening my friend. Sending Lots of love, hugs and gratitude. Enjoy your Saturday my kind friend. Love ❤️ Joni

    2. Doing great and feeling blessed and I hope you are too. There sure is a lot of talent out there. I am going to post a new song tonight. I enjoy it so I do it for me. I use to see myself draped across a piano in a beautiful restaurant “Back in the Day. You have an amazing week and keep the great tunes coming. Hugs, love and blessings. Joni

    3. Thank you for sharing that information with me. My next song will be hard to listen to. I have been saying I was going to write a political piece for ever but there are so many things I want to talk about. I just watched the “The Zookeepers Wife” for the second time. I was thinking of a poem about that. I have something to work on. It has been time believe me. I remember studying “Strange Fruit” in Jazz class and the achingly brutal pain that I could hear in Billie Holiday’s voice when she sang that song tore out a piece of my heart that day.
Sending you gratitude, love, hugs and many blessings for health for you and all those you love. ❤️❤️😘☕️☕️☕️☕️☕️The fairies will be stopping by for some hot coffee on their way to cheer up some children. 😘Joni

    4. Hi Joni! You know history is very interesting and strange. WWII was mysteriously in slow motion and surreal. The same corruption is happening today but the reality to see and understand the events are difficult when most of us, pro or con are moving at an extraordinary fast pace that the awfulness has many synchronized, conditioned and imprisoned to the status quo in fear of facing detriment or even more fear. Today, people (mannequins processed for their new id) are at a weird and weak state of complacency. Billie Holiday’s strange fruit is a depiction of dark and unusual subjections compared to our our present times. I know your poetry will have a tremendous voice. Sending much love and strong coffee🍮🍮🍮💫🍂💓💓💓

    5. Yes, my friend the world is full of horrors and people are unaware living the daily grind. We are living in frightening times my friend. Thank you for writing and for listening. Have a blessed week and stay safe. Love, hugs and prayers. 🤗❤️💕☕️☕️🙏
