Kyu Sakamoto released his Japanese song Sukiyaki in 1961. Sukiyaki hit the top music charts in the U.S. and other countries in 1963.
Sukiyaki has been covered by numerous singers and musicians over the years and saxophonist John Ace has shared his rendition.
John “Ace” Cannon( May 5, 1934 – December 6, 2018) was an American solo tenor and alto saxophonist who performed with various backup groups and, in 1961, he had two successful hits: “Tuff” hit #17 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1962, and the follow-up single “Blues (Stay Away from Me)” Cannon was inducted into both the Rock and Soul Hall of Fame and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in 2000.
Today many of Ace’s live recordings that were used in concert venues, spark new interest in the world of jazz.
